FAL (Future Aviation Lounge) is an initiative powered by the Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA), designed to reimagine the airport lounge experience for the future of aviation. To introduce this concept to stakeholders and the public, an explainer animation was needed — one that could distil an ambitious, forward-looking concept into a clear, engaging visual narrative for digital and presentation use.
As sole creative and animator on this engagement for CX Unicorn, I was tasked with bringing the FAL concept to life through a fully animated 2D explainer video. The brief called for a visual style that felt futuristic and aspirational — reflecting FAL's vision for next-generation aviation experiences — while remaining clear and accessible for a broad stakeholder audience.
The project began with scripting and storyboarding — breaking down FAL's vision into a sequence of visual scenes, each illustrating a specific feature or experience within the future lounge concept. From there I developed the character and environment style, establishing a flat, geometric 2D aesthetic that would animate cleanly and stay legible at small sizes across digital platforms. Every frame was illustrated, rigged, and animated individually before being composited into the final sequence.
Working solo across the entire pipeline — illustration, rigging, animation, and sound sync — required careful pacing to keep the narrative moving without overwhelming the viewer. Transitions between scenes were designed to feel seamless, using shape morphing and consistent visual motifs to tie FAL's various features into one cohesive story. The final piece balanced an aspirational, futuristic tone with clear, digestible information.
The completed animation was used to introduce the FAL concept across digital channels and stakeholder presentations, providing a compelling visual entry point into an ambitious vision for the future of airport lounges. The project remains one of my most complete demonstrations of solo 2D animation production — from concept and storyboard through to final delivery.
